"boNGO Worldwide" tries to improve the standards for education in Malawi. In the current project, a cooperation between two educational institutions in Malawi has been initiated in order to further improve the quality of teaching. and bring together children from different backgrounds
Early education in Malawi is often characterized by a lack of resources and qualified personnel. Effective state support is lacking as well. At the model childcare center in Umodzi-Mbame where every year about 100 children are taught by qualified teachers, the methods of Montessori pedagogy are used in order to support the learning process. Required education material is produced in an own workshop, which in turn offers apprenticeship positions for young adults. The partnership between Umodzi-Mbame and the Mini-Me nursery and primary school allows teachers in both institutions to learn from each other and share experiences. The project also brings together children from various backgrounds and helps to build friendships.
How to support this project?
The School Linking Project is looking for educational experts with a professional experience in pedagogy (Montessori methods or others). Also skilled artisans and other people willing to support the work in Malawi are welcome.
The organization »African Angel« runs a children’s house in the city of Accra, Ghana. The most recent project aims at setting up a vocational training center and a store in order to provide education opportunities for local youths.
The slum of Bakum is one of the oldest and poorest neighbourhoods of Ghana’s capital city Accra. Due to overfishing, the inhabitants have lost their traditional form of income. Public infrastructure and housing conditions are desolate. Especially children are at risk, child labour and early pregnancy are common. Most people cannot afford a private education, which would offer an opportunity to escape poverty. African Angel supports children throughout their educational career. A training workshop shall create additional opportunities. Young men will receive vocational training as metal workers. In a store in downtown Accra, women will sell the products and receive mircocredits in order to set up their own sales business.
How to support this project?
The project would happily welcome educators who could provide teaching assistance. The children are always happy about visitors who participate in different activities (workshops, music, handcrafts) – prior contact is advisable.
The aim of the project is to establish a vocational school in North-Western Cameroon. The school will allow young adults to obtain a sound professional education.
After completing their compulsory schooling, many children in Cameroon do not have any possibility to obtain further education. Professional training is expensive and education opportunities are rare. In the Akum vocational school, about 50 students per year will have the opportunity to complete a professional education. In addition to basic teaching in English, French and mathematics, students are trained either as metal workers, carpenters, masons /bricklayers, electricians or IT technicians. The construction of the schoolhouse will begin shortly. All necessary organizational and planning steps have been completed. The building project will be completed by the teachers together with the first batch of students. Modern building techniques will be combined with the usage of local material and techniques. After a three-year-phase of start-up support, the school shall become self-financed.
How to support this project?
The project is looking for people willing to get actively involved in the project. Especially support in Cameroon (either within the building project or related to the professional education) is welcome.
