The cooperation between Crossing Borders and the "VTTC Enugu (Vocational Technical Training Center)" has made it possible to improve and renovate several educational facilities across Nigeria and thus improve the education opportunities for about 4.500 pupils.
The VTTC Enugu was established in 2000 to meet Nigeria’s growing demand for skilled craftspeople. During a 2.5 year apprenticeship, young people are trained as electricians, metal workers and mechanics. They receive a sound education that combines theoretical teaching with practical lessons in partner companies. The cooperation between Crossing Borders, FIDESCO and the VTTC Enugu has supported the set up and renovation of several educational facilities. The learning environment for VTTC apprentices is continuously improving to ensure that they receive the best practical training.

The »Tsumeb Arts-Performance-Center (APC)« off ers musical and arts education to unemployed children and young adults. The result is an increased quality of life, as many of the musicians have already found employment as professional musicians or teachers in one of the three other APCs in Namibia.
The APC in Tsumeb is the third center of its kind that has been built up in Namibia by the project’s initiator Lis Hidber. It is visited by children and young adults from different social backgrounds. However, most of them face poverty and unemployment. The APC offers them new perspectives and opportunities to learn. Those who acquire a certain skill level have the chance to get employed as a teacher and pass on their knowledge to other students. Some are also able to earn their living as professional musicians. In addition to the musical teaching, the attendees also learn other skills that help them to cope with challenges in their daily life.
How to support this project?
The project is looking for skilled music professionals willing to support the education of the teaching staff of the APC. Additional opportunities for voluntary engagement exist as well.
The project aims at improving the living conditions of orphans, half-orphans, and children from impoverished families through a day-care center where better nutrition, emotional care, educational support as well as financial support for vocational training are provided.
Mozambique is one of the poorest countries of the world, healthcare and educational systems are poorly developed, and unemployment is high. About 45 per cent of the population are illiterate, many youths are infected with HIV and child labor is common. The project supports two day-care centers for children from poor backgrounds. Children in need are directly supported by providing remedial teaching, regular meals and financial support. The project also supports activities that raise awareness for children’s rights and the responsibility of families and communities for their welfare. Crossing Borders support has helped to improve the quality of teaching, create new educational possibilities and erect a new school building.
